The Actively Drunk Traveler

A workout and health fanatic, who loves her spirits, and is on a mission to see the world.

It’s my last full day in Rome and in the summer I was told that everyone hits their beach property during the summer. So I woke up in the morning with a plan to check it out. I headed to the San Pedro station and hopped on a train to one of Rome’s best beaches, Santa Marinella.

I found where all the Roman’s were. Every rented beach chair and umbrella was filled. On a 100 degree day, I was able to find a sliver of an open space on the sand and rent my own umbrella to get some shade. I spent 2 hours there just relaxing and checking out the sites. The Roman’s are very into showing their bodies…no matter their size. More power to them.

Anyway, all that sun had me starving! And on my last day I had to find one of the best pizza spots in Rome. I decided to head to Pizzarium since it was in the vicinity of my hotel. Pizzarium is ‘Pizza al taglio’ or ‘Pizza by the cut.’ You order your slice by the cut and pay by the weight. They have all types of specialty pizzas. Mine had fish on it and some other stuff that was absolutely amazing. After the sun and full belly, I retired to my hotel room for nap time.

Nap time was done and I ended up waking up as the sun was setting.

I made my way to the Jewish quarter again and visited the Great Synagogue, the largest in Rome.

Then I sought a nice outdoor pasta dinner with a dessert of pure chocolate sauce. Yum!

From here, I met up with a local I met the previous day and we hit the parties that line the Tiber river, once the rose and marriage proposal came, I knew it was time to call it a night.

The next morning I was prepping to head back to the US so I packed my bags and took in the little time I had left in Rome. I walked around Prati ran into Caffe Castroni, one of the greatest gourmet grocery stores I’ve ever seen. Baristas wearing ties served you coffee, there are jams and cheeses and meats everywhere.

I also had to make one last stop before I went. I had to find the best Gelato in Rome. I got the tip from Anthony Bourdain who is my travel god and he once again did not disappoint. I’ve eaten from a number of gelato places in my life and the freshness of the gelato at Gelateria dei Gracchi is, so far, unmatched.  It was a great end to a fantastic European tour.

It’s Apple Cinnamon and Pistachio if you’re asking.

The Brooklyn Half Marathon!

I started out by making my breakfast juice of Mango, Beets, Carrots, Ginger, and Flaxseeds. I followed that up with making my Green Juice for lunch.

I wanted to prep an easy lunch for the week, and I missed sandwiches so I made a TBLT…a Turkey Bacon, Lettuce and Turkey Sandwich. Those are all the ingredients.

I started off today building my usual green juice and a beet juice with apple, strawberries, carrots, and flaxseeds.

My Lunch for the week to go along with my green juice is oven-roasted chicken breast and asparagus:

After this I prepped my dinner for the week…an AMAZING Chicken & Turkey Sausage Saffron Cauliflower Risotto. It turned out awesomely!

Just realized I hit over 1 million Nike Fuel Points.

Spring cleaning continues. Cleaning my inside with organic foods and juicing, Getting my outside together with fitness.

For The Month of April I committed to going to Bar Method 5 times a week, and I’ve achieved it! My body craves the positions now. I’ve done ZERO running for the month and i’m maintaining a strong toned body, with no knee or foot pain.
These ladies are absolutely amazing at what they do. No wonder I’m in classes with Anne Hathaway and other celebs and notables. Your body starts to change in a matter of a couple of weeks, and seeing the instructors bodies, it only gets better with more time.

This is one of the best social campaigns I’ve seen. The difference between how we see ourselves and how others see us. Pretty powerful.

Organic Wine out of Argentina

So today I was focused on quick juices and meals that i can get through in minutes while I managed the chaos that is my life.

I made my usual green juice for lunch and made a breakfast juice of Pineapple, Carrots, Apple, and Flaxseed.

Then for a quick lunch, I whipped up some turkey lettuce wraps…yum!
